Our trip to New York city in early December was blessed by warm foggy weather that made it great to be out and about, walking and exploring parts of the city that we had not been to before. We had no intention of doing any shopping, we just wanted to take interesting photographs!
We started off at Rockefeller Plaza, and wandered around a bit, looking at the Christmas decorations and the crowds of people who had come to do exactly the same thing!
We took the subway and then walked a few blocks to China Town.
Then we heades towards Soho, a completely different vibe, almost another world; less exotic and more familiar and "American", more integrated culturally and ethnically, People walking their dogs, art and Christmas markets for sale everhywhere rather than the dried fish and vegetables in the street markets in China Town!
We walked to Union Square, by this time I felt as if my feet were bleeding!!! We had a great cup of hot chocolate at Max Brenner and a chocolate fondue which was sublime (followed by several glasses of water!)
We took the subway back to the Plaza and by then it was late afternoon and quite dark. The lights were spectacular and so were the crowds...it was nearly impossible to make our way back to where we had agreed to meet our coach. We eventually made it there but the bus was 40 minutes late due to the crowds which had spilled off the sidewalks and into the streets. The cops had a tough time trying to control the huge number of people who were enjoying the mild weather and the beautiful light displays.
This was just a little bite of the Big Apple. There is so much more to see!
